Vocal Coach

Recording artist Sonya Merritt is an anointed vocal communicator with experience singing to national and international audiences.  Eight years of private training in piano and voice training established a strong foundation for Sonya's success. As director of one of the gospel choirs at North Carolina A&T State University, she demonstrated musical leadership among her peers while earning a B.S. in Business Administration. She later earned a Master of Science in Management from Troy State University.  While her husband served in the United States Air Force, they traveled  extensively along the Nation's East Coast.  From upstate New York, through the Nation's capital, through the panhandle of Florida, to the Coast of Mississippi, over to Illinois, across the waters to Japan and South Korea - the musical pathway seemed to lead Sonya to a microphone, as director or guest soloist. While residing in Japan, one of Sonya's most memorable experiences as a guest artist is when she sang to a Japanese audience on Tokyo's town square and shared her Christian testimony.

In August 2006, "Looking For You", Sonya's debut album was released.  In March 2007, she was featured on Inspirations Across America, a nationally syndicated radio show that spotlights independent artists.  Her second recording, "The Keys" was released in December 2017. Wife and mother of two daughters, Sonya continues to invest her life in providing vocal training.  She conducts several vocal classes each week.  

• It's one thing to be a singer, it's quite another thing to be able to successfully train others to be excellent in their gift.  This is where Coach Sonya excels. Since the inception of Vocal Aerobics in 2007 and even before it's inception, Sonya has been sought after to impart her gift and to direct other inspiring singers to exhaust their vocal abilities.  To be able to duplicate a vocal talent  is a gift that Coach Sonya passes on to her students.
• Her ability to effectively train singers  is evidenced by Vocal Aerobics students who have demonstrated the skills they've learned and soared to heights of excellence!  These vocal achievers have become worship leaders,  recruits by recording agencies, college music scholarships recipients, recording artists, songwriters, school musical soloists, competition winners, on and on. Yes, Vocal Aerobics students are successful vocalist, singers, and artists!
